Valve Clearance: Notes

CAUTION: Shims and tappets are location-specific. Use a permanent type marker to note tappet and shim locations. DO NOT scratch or use paint to mark tappets or shims. Incorrect lash adjustments and/or severe engine damage may result.

NOTE: All models except 2.0L (VIN 3), 3.0L (VIN S) and 3.9L (VIN A) are equipped with hydraulic valve lifters; valve adjustment is not required. If valves are noisy or incorrect clearance is suspected, components are worn. Check collapsed valve lifter clearance. See appropriate article in ENGINES.
