Section 12 (Generators & Regulators): Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

System consists of 105-amp generator, internal voltage regulator, battery, Powertrain Control Module (PCM), warning indicator, related fuses and wiring. PCM and generator communicate using pulse-width modulated signals. A dedicated line communicates desired charging rate from PCM to generator and a second dedicated line communicates load from generator to PCM.

Warning indicator should illuminate with ignition on, engine off. Warning indicator should not illuminate with ignition off, or with engine running. Generator and regulator cannot be serviced separately, and must be replaced as an assembly.
