Test I: Panic Feature Inoperative From Remote

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located beneath instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, monitor FEM PID AL_EVT1, while pressing PANIC button on remote transmitter. If NGS tester does not display AL_EVT1 PANIC, go to next step. If NGS tester displays AL_EVT1 PANIC, repair anti-theft system. See appropriate ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS article.
  2. Using NGS tester, monitor Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module function test for TRANSMITTER TIC/DATA, and record alpha-numeric codes. If 2 Transmitter Identification Codes (TIC) are stored in individual memory location (TIC1, TIC2, TIC3 or TIC4), go to next step. If 2 TICs are not stored in individual memory location, program all remote transmitters. See PROGRAMMING  .
  3. Using NGS tester, monitor RKE module function test TRANSMITTER TIC/DATA, while pressing remote transmitter panic button. If 8-digit alpha-numeric code does not appear for LAST TIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED does not match button pressed, go to next step. If 8-digit alpha-numeric code appears for LAST TIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED matches button pressed, go to step  5 .
  4. Using NGS tester, monitor RKE module function test TRANSMITTER TIC/DATA, while pressing second remote transmitter panic button. If 8-digit alpha-numeric code does not appear for LAST TIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED does not match button pressed, go to next step. If 8-digit alpha-numeric code appears for LAST TIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED matches button pressed, replace transmitter batteries and program transmitter. See PROGRAMMING  .
  5. Using NGS tester, monitor RKE module function test TRANSMITTER TIC/DATA. If LAST TIC RECEIVED is one of TICs recorded in step  3 , go to next step. If LAST TIC RECEIVED is not one of TICs recorded in step  3 , program all remote transmitters. See PROGRAMMING  .
  6. Using NGS tester, monitor RKE module function test TRANSMITTER TIC/DATA, while pressing each button of remote transmitter. If value agrees with output value displayed when each remote transmitter button is pressed, go to next step. If value does not agree with output value displayed when each remote transmitter button is pressed, program all remote transmitters. See PROGRAMMING  .
  7. Disconnect all RKE module harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all RKE module harness connectors. Operate system to verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace RKE module. Clear DTCs and repeat RKE self-test. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and repeat RKE self-test.
