WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Ford Windstar and 1999 Ford Windstar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to ON position. Check for DTCs from FEM. Record any FEM DTCs present. Go to appropriate test procedure for codes present. See DTC INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. For DTCs not listed in this article, see FEM DTC table in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - WINDSTAR article. If no DTC for FEM exist, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, access FEM PID information display. Monitor FEM PID for D_DOOR. Close all doors. If displayed information agrees with driver's door position, go to next step. If information does not agree driver's door position, locate and repair fault in driver's door ajar switch, or related circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  3. Disconnect driver's door ajar switch connector. Monitor FEM PID for D_DOOR. If display for D_DOOR still indicate AJAR?, go to next step. If display does not indicate AJAR?, replace driver's door ajar switch.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect FEM connector C346. See Figure . Measure resistance between FEM connector C346 terminal No. 8 (Light Green/Black wire) and ground. If reading is 10 k/ohms or more, replace FEM. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - WINDSTAR article. If reading is less than 10 k/ohms, locate and repair short to ground in Light Green/Black wire circuit.
  5. Monitor instrument cluster PID information for IGN_KEY, while inserting key into ignition, then completely removing key from ignition. If instrument cluster PID display information reflects key-in and key completely removed, replace FEM. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - WINDSTAR article. If instrument cluster PID does not display correct information, repair ignition switch concern as necessary. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - WINDSTAR article.
