Self-Diagnostic System

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Ford Windstar and 1999 Ford Windstar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: During Power Sliding Door (PSD) module self-test, PSD module will attempt to fully open and close PSD. PSD module self-test does not require Park enable input or VSS signal to open door. DO NOT perform PSD self-test with vehicle in motion.
NOTE: All diagnostic tests are written specifically for New Generation Star (NGS) tester. Most generic scan tools should be able to perform all test procedures.
NOTE: To perform power sliding door module self-tests, overhead console on/off switch must be in ON position, ignition switch in RUN position, gear selector must be in Park and doors must be completely closed and unlocked. Fuel filler door must remain closed, when performing left power sliding door module self-test only.
NOTE: Central Junction Box (CJB) may also be referred to as Fuse Junction Box (FJB).

Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), located beneath left side of instrument panel. Using NGS tester, perform data link diagnostics test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - WINDSTAR article. If NGS tester responds with CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70=ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, repair module communications concern. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - WINDSTAR article. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for Left Power Sliding Door Module (LPSDM), perform TEST A: NO COMMUNICATION WITH LEFT POWER SLIDING DOOR MODULE (LPSDM)  under SYSTEM TESTS. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for Right Power Sliding Door Module (RPSDM), perform TEST B: NO COMMUNICATION WITH RIGHT POWER SLIDING DOOR MODULE (RPSDM)  under SYSTEM TESTS. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for Rear Electronic Module (REM), perform TEST C: NO COMMUNICATION WITH REAR ELECTRONIC MODULE (REM)  under SYSTEM TESTS.

If NGS tester responds with SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). Erase continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). Using NGS tester, perform LPSDM, RPSDM and REM self-test. Perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See LEFT POWER SLIDING DOOR MODULE DTC INDEX , RIGHT POWER SLIDING DOOR MODULE DTC INDEX  and/or REAR ELECTRONICS MODULE DTC INDEX  table. Codes listed in these tables are only for testing covered in this article. For complete DTC listing, see MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - WINDSTAR article. If no DTCs are retrieved, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table.
