Test G: Luggage Compartment Lid Inoperative Using Remote Transmitter/Keyless Entry Keypad
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Focus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Unlock luggage compartment lid using luggage compartment lid release switch. If luggage compartment lid unlocks properly, go to next step. If luggage compartment lid does not unlock properly, go to TEST C .
- Using NGS tester, access Generic Electronic Module, (GEM) FUNCTION TEST, Transmitter TIC/DATA. Access PROGRAM TIC and select 4 memory locations. Record alpha-numeric codes. If there are 2 TICs stored at TIC1, TIC2, TIC3 and TIC4 positions, go to next step. If there are not 2 TICs stored at TIC1, TIC2, TIC3 and TIC4 positions, program all remote transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING. Clear DTCs. Repeat self-test.
- From NGS tester FUNCTION TEST, monitor GEM PID LAST TIC/DATA RECEIVED while pressing and releasing remote transmitter luggage compartment UNLOCK button. If an 8-digit alpha-numeric code appears for LASTTIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED matches button pressed, go to step 5. If an 8-digit alpha-numeric code does not appear for LASTTIC RECEIVED and/or LAST DATA RECEIVED does not match button pressed, go to next step.
- From NGS tester FUNCTION TEST, monitor Transmitter TIC/DATA while pressing and releasing remote transmitter luggage compartment lid UNLOCK button on second transmitter. If an 8-digit alpha-numeric code appears for LASTTIC RECEIVED and LAST DATA RECEIVED matches button pressed, check battery of remote transmitter used in step 3. If battery is okay, replace remote transmitter. Program all remote transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING. If an 8-digit alpha-numeric code did not appear for LASTTIC RECEIVED and/or LAST DATA RECEIVED does not match button pressed, go to next step.
- From NGS tester FUNCTION TEST, monitor Transmitter TIC/DATA using recorded alpha-numeric codes from step 2. If TIC RECEIVED is one of TICs RECORDED in step 2, go to next step. If TIC RECEIVED is not one of TICs RECORDED in step 2, program all remote transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING. Recheck system operation.
- From NGS tester FUNCTION TEST, monitor Transmitter TIC/DATA. If each button pressed on remote transmitter creates expected LAST DATA RECEIVED output, go to next step. If each button pressed on remote transmitter does not create expected LAST DATA RECEIVED output, program all remote transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING. Recheck system operation.
- Check GEM connectors for corrosion, damaged or pushed out pins. Repair as necessary. Reconnect any disconnected connectors. Ensure all system connectors are fully seated and tight. Recheck system operation. If fault still exists, replace GEM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If fault no longer exists, problem may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
