  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Using scan tool, retrieve and record all DTCs. Clear Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) DTCs. Perform PATS self-test, then retrieve PATS DTCs. If DTC B2139 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B2139 is not retrieved, PATS is okay.
  2. CAUTION: DO NOT select KEY CODE ERASE function in this step.
  3. Perform KEY PROGRAMMING - SECURITY ACCESS PROCEDURE  under PROGRAMMING. Select PATS PARAMETER RESET. On 7.3 liter diesel engine, disconnect battery for one minute to clear PCM keep alive memory. On all other engines, use scan tool to reset PCM memory. Go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition switch to RUN position for 30 seconds. Clear continuous DTCs. Perform PATS self-test, then retrieve PATS DTCs. If DTC B2139 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B2139 is not retrieved, PATS is okay. If any other PATS DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test(s). See PATS DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  5. Ensure correct PCM is installed on this vehicle. Replace PCM if necessary. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If correct PCM is installed, go to next step.
  6. Using scan tool, clear PATS DTCs. Perform PATS self-test, then retrieve PATS DTCs. If DTC B2139 is not retrieved, PATS is okay. If DTC B2139 still exists, replace PATS control module. See PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
  7. Using 2 encoded ignition keys, turn ignition switch to RUN, then LOCK position. Using scan tool, clear PATS DTCs. Perform PATS self-test, then retrieve PATS DTCs. If DTC B2139 is not retrieved, PATS is okay. If DTC B2139 still exists, Replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
