Test K: No Security Id Exchange Between Passive Anti-Theft System Control Module & Pcm
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Ford Excursion and 2000 Ford Excursion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
After any repairs, perform data link diagnostic test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - EXCURSION & F250/F350 SUPER DUTY article.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Using scan tool, retrieve and record continuous Diagnostic Trouble codes (DTC). Clear continuous DTCs. Turn ignition switch to RUN, LOCK then ON position. Retrieve continuous DTCs. If no DTCs are retrieved, PATS is okay. If B2141 is only DTC retrieved, go to next step. If both DTC B2141 and U1147 are retrieved, go to TEST L: FAULTY SCP LINK OR INCORRECT PCM CALIBRATION . If any other PATS DTCs are retrieved, perform appropriate test(s). See PATS DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. On 7.3 liter diesel engine, disconnect battery for one minute to clear PCM keep alive memory. On all other engines, use scan tool to reset PCM memory. Turn ignition switch to ON position for 30 seconds, then to LOCK position. Attempt to start vehicle. If vehicle starts, PATS is okay. If vehicle does not start, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear continuous PATS DTCs. Turn ignition switch to ON, then LOCK position. Perform PATS self-test, then retrieve PATS DTCs. If DTC B2141 is not retrieved, PATS is okay. If DTC B2141 is retrieved repeat step 2 . If fault persists, go to next step.
- Ensure correct PCM is installed on this vehicle. Replace PCM if necessary. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If correct PCM is installed, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear PATS DTCs. Perform PATS self-test, then retrieve PATS DTCs. If DTC B2141 is not retrieved, PATS is okay. If DTC B2141 still exists, replace PATS control module. See PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
- Using 2 encoded ignition keys, turn ignition switch to RUN, then LOCK position. Using scan tool, clear PATS DTCs. Perform PATS self-test, then retrieve PATS DTCs. If DTC B2141 still exists, Replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
