Steering Column: Disassembly
CAUTION:
The shift inter-lock actuator is not serviceable. If service to the actuator is required, the steering column assembly must be replaced. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN in REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION.
- Remove the ignition lock cylinder. For additional information, refer to IGNITION SWITCH LOCK CYLINDER-FUNCTIONAL or IGNITION SWITCH LOCK CYLINDER-NON-FUNCTIONAL .
- Remove the steering column. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN .
- Remove the screws and the steering column upper bracket.
- Depress the two retainer tabs and remove the ignition switch.
- Remove the ignition switch spring.
- Pull downward on the spring and release the spring tension, route the spring above the spring guide.
- Cut the spring retainer and remove the spring.
- Remove the nut.
- Remove the spring guide and washer.
- Remove the bolt and sleeve and spring, and pivot the steering column mounting bracket upward.
- Remove the washer.
- Remove the bearing.
- Remove the tilt lever.
- Remove the bolts and the shift cable and harness retainer brackets.
- Using a suitable punch from the opposite side, remove the steering column clamp retainer.
WARNING:
To avoid the risk of serious personal injury, follow all warnings, cautions, notes and instructions in the steering column removal procedure.
CAUTION:
Do not use a screwdriver to separate the clamp retainer or damage can result.
