Test F: Doors Do Not Lock/Unlock Using Remote Transmitter
- Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester following manufacturers instructions. Retrieve GEM DTCs. If DTC B1300 exists, go to step 7. If any other DTCs exist, See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - FOCUS article for complete DTC listing. Repair as necessary. If no DTCs exist, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Monitor GEM PID LAST DATA RECEIVED. If scan tool displays an 8-digit alpha-numeric code after pressing LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on both remote transmitters, go to next step. If scan tool does not display an 8-digit alpha-numeric code after pressing lock and unlock buttons on both remote transmitters, go to step 4.
- Press driver and passenger door lock control switch LOCK and UNLOCK buttons. If door locks operate properly, go to step 7. If door locks do not operate properly, go to TEST D .
- From NGS tester FUNCTION TEST, monitor TIC/DATA. If at least one remote transmitter stored and displayed next to TIC1 or TIC2, go to next step. If at least one remote transmitter did not store and display next to TIC1 or TIC2, program all remote transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING.
- From NGS tester FUNCTION TEST, monitor GEM PID LAST DATA RECEIVED while pressing and releasing remote transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons. If an 8-digit alpha-numeric code appears, go to next step. If an 8-digit alpha-numeric code does not appear, check remote transmitter batteries. If batteries are okay, replace remote transmitter. Program all remote transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING. Recheck system operation. If fault still exists, go to step 8.
- From NGS tester FUNCTION TEST, monitor GEM PID LAST TIC RECEIVED while pressing and releasing remote transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons. If TIC under LAST TIC RECEIVED matches TIC1 or TIC2, go to step 8. If TIC under LAST DATA RECEIVED does not match TIC1 or TIC2, program all remote transmitters. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING. Recheck system operation.
- Using NGS tester, select active command. Trigger CTRL LOCK ON and OFF. If doors lock and unlock, go to next step. If doors do not lock and unlock, go to TEST D .
- Check GEM connectors for corrosion, damaged or pushed out pins. Repair as necessary. Reconnect any disconnected connectors. Ensure all system connectors are fully seated and tight. Recheck system operation. If fault still exists, replace GEM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If fault no longer exists, problem may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
