Manual Transaxle: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Milan and 2006 Ford Fusion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Manual Transaxle

The G5M manual transaxle is a fully synchronized 5-speed transaxle. The forward gears are selected by a synchronizer mechanism. The 3rd gear, 4th gear and the 5th speed cluster gear are mounted on the input shaft. The 1st gear, 2nd gear and the reverse output gear are mounted on the output shaft. The helical-cut forward gears are in constant mesh with the corresponding gears on the opposing shaft. The G5M features a synchronized reverse gear. The reverse gears have helical-cut teeth and are engaged through the reverse idler gear and bushing.
