Pinpoint Test I: The Wash And Wipe Function Is Inoperative - Rear

  1. I1 CHECK THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Multi-function Switch C2081.
    • Carry out the multi-function switch component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING .
    • Did the multi-function switch pass the component test? 

    Yes  : GO to I2.

    No  : INSTALL a new multi-function switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . TEST the system for normal operation.

  2. I2 CHECK THE REAR WIPER OPERATION 
    • Connect: Multi-function Switch C2081.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Operate the rear washer pump.
    • Does the rear wiper operate? 

    Yes  : GO to I3.

    No  : GO to  I6.

  3. I3 CHECK CIRCUIT 406 (BN/WH) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Rear Washer Pump C1097.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between rear washer pump C1097-1, circuit 406 (BN/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 

    Yes  : GO to  I5.

    No  : GO to I4.

  4. I4 CHECK CIRCUIT 406 (BN/WH) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280d.
    • Measure the resistance between rear washer pump C1097-1, circuit 406 (BN/WH), harness side and SJB C2280d-30, circuit 406 (BN/WH), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes  : GO to  I7.

    No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  5. I5 CHECK CIRCUIT 488 (DG) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • While activating the front washer pump using the multi-function switch, measure the resistance between rear washer pump C1097-2, circuit 488 (DG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes  : INSTALL a new rear window washer pump. REFER to WASHER PUMP - REAR WINDOW  in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.

    No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  6. I6 CHECK THE REAR WASHER SIGNAL CIRCUIT TO THE SJB ON CIRCUIT 488 (DG) 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: SJB C2280e.
    • Disconnect: Multi-function Switch C2081.
    • Measure the resistance between SJB C2280e-10, circuit 488 (DG), harness side and multi-function switch C2081-11, circuit 488 (DG), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes  : GO to I7.

    No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  7. I7 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion.
      • pushed-out pins.
    • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . REPEAT the SJB self-test.

    TEST the system for normal operation.

    No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
