WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Ford RV Cutaway, 2008 Ford Econoline, 2008 Ford E450 Super Duty, and 2008 Ford Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.
- M1 MONITOR THE PCM BRAKE PEDAL POSITION (BPP/BOO) PID
- Connect the diagnostic tool.
- Key in ON position.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: DataLogger PCM
- Press and release the brake pedal while monitoring the BPP/BOO PID.
- Does the PID switch to ON with the brake pedal pressed and then to OFF with the brake pedal released?
- YES : Go to M2.
- NO : RETRIEVE any PCM DTCs. REFER to the appropriate Engine Performance article for non-communication DTCs and REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article for any communication DTCs.
- M2 MONITOR THE ABS MODULE MASTER CYLINDER PRESSURE (MC_PRES) PID
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: DataLogger ABS Module
- Firmly press and release the brake pedal while monitoring the MC_PRES PID.
- Does the PID increase with firm pressure on the brake pedal and then decrease with the brake pedal released?
- M3 ROAD TEST THE VEHICLE AND MONITOR THE ABS MODULE MASTER CYLINDER PRESSURE (MC_PRES) PID WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: DataLogger ABS Module
- Road test the vehicle and have an assistant monitor the MC_PRES PID.
- Does the PID increase with firm pressure on the brake pedal and then decrease with the brake pedal released?
- YES : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- NO : Go to M4.
- M4 ISOLATE THE HCU
- Install a new HCU. Refer to Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) in this article. Calibrate the ABS module. Follow the scan tool directions for the calibration procedure.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: DataLogger ABS Module
- Firmly press and release the brake pedal while monitoring the MC_PRES PID.
- Does the PID increase with firm pressure on the brake pedal and then decrease with the brake pedal released?
- YES : The concern has been corrected. RETURN the vehicle to the customer.
- NO : INSTALL a new ABS module, REFER to Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module in this article. Using the scan tool, CARRY OUT the IVD (ESC) initialization sequence. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test with the brake pedal not applied.
