Section 18 (Automatic A/C-Heater Systems): Specifications

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mercury Villager. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Vehicle is equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. When servicing vehicle, use care to avoid accidental air bag deployment. SIR system-related components are located in various locations throughout interior and exterior of vehicle, depending on application. Do not use electrical test equipment on or near these circuits. If necessary, deactivate SIR system before servicing components. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS.

(1) Deflection is measured with 22 lbs. of pressure applied to A/C drive belt, midway between A/C compressor clutch pulley and crankshaft pulley. Measure drive belt deflection after engine has been stopped for at least 30 minutes.
(2) A drive belt used less than 5 minutes.
(3) Rotate the A/C compressor shaft 6-8 revolutions while collecting the oil in a clean measuring device. If the amount of oil drained from the old A/C compressor is between 3-5 ounces (85-142 ml), pour the same amount plus one ounce (30 ml) of clean PAG compressor oil into the new A/C compressor. If the amount of oil that was removed from the old A/C compressor is greater than 5 ounces (142 ml), pour the same amount drained of clean PAG compressor oil into the new A/C compressor. If the amount of oil that was removed from the old A/C compressor is less than 3 ounces (85 ml), pour 3 ounces (85 ml) of clean PAG compressor oil into the new A/C compressor.
(4) Use Motorcraft YN-12-C Oil (Part No. F7AZ-19589-DA).
(5) Measured at 77°F (25°C).
