Vehicle Security Module (VSM): Installation
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Ford RV Cutaway, 2008 Ford Econoline, 2008 Ford E450 Super Duty, and 2008 Ford Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Position the VSM and connect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Install the VSM and the 2 bolts.
- Tighten the bolts to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
- Install the RH A-pillar lower trim panel.
- Download the VSM configuration information from the scan tool to the VSM. For additional information, refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION article.
- Train the tire pressure sensors. For additional information, refer to WHEELS AND TIRES article.
- Carry out the VSM on-demand self-test by clearing the DTCs and then retrieving the DTCs to confirm all DTCs have been cleared.
NOTE:
If the VSM is not being replaced, this is the last step that is necessary.
NOTE:
When successful, this step provides the calibration necessary for the VSM operation and clears the DTC B2477. The clearing of this DTC indicates the calibration data has been successfully downloaded to the VSM.
NOTE:
If the module configuration upload/download (PMI) is successful, the remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter identification codes (TICs) will be downloaded into the new VSM and it will not be necessary to program them to the new VSM. In this event, it is not necessary to have all of the RKE transmitters present. It would be convenient, though, to test all of the transmitters before releasing the vehicle to the customer. If the module configuration upload/download is not successful, then all of the customer RKE transmitters must be programmed to the new VSM. For additional information, refer to HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS
article.
NOTE:
When successful, this step clears DTCs B2868, B2869, B2870 and B2871. The clearing of these DTCs indicates the VSM has recognized the tire pressure sensors during the training procedure.
NOTE:
DTC C2780 will not clear if any other DTCs are present in the VSM.
