Data Link Diagnostic Test
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), if not already connected. Select vehicle to be tested from NGS tester menu.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Rotate dial on NGS tester to menu item DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK and press trigger. A test will be performed on the bus (circuits No. 914 and 915) for the module communications network and the ISO 9141 communication link (circuit No. 70).
- If NGS tester displays CKT 914 (+) = SYSTEM PASSED and CKT 915 (-) = SYSTEM PASSED, or if NGS tester displays CKT 70 = SYSTEM PASSED, ISO 9141, module communications network is okay. Return to article that directed you here and continue diagnosis.
- If no response from NGS tester, go to TEST J: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION under SYSTEM TESTS. Perform the following as applicable. If NGS tester displays:
- CKT70, CKT914 and/or CKT915 = SOME ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS to continue diagnosis for module in question.
- CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to TEST H: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATIONS - ISO 9141 LINK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- CKT914 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to TEST I: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION - BUS LINK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- CKT915 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to TEST I: NO MODULE/NETWORK COMMUNICATION - BUS LINK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED, go to SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TEST to continue diagnosis for module in question.
- NO RESPONSE ON CKT914 (BUS +), go to SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS to continue diagnosis for module in question.
- NO RESPONSE ON CKT 915 (BUS -), go to SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS to continue diagnosis for module in question.
