Cylinder Head LH: Installation
- Clean and inspect the cylinder head for flatness. For additional information, refer to ENGINE SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Install a new head gasket on the cylinder block with the small hole to the front of the engine and position the cylinder head.
- Install the new bolts. Make sure the bolts are installed in the correct locations.
- Install new long bolts.
- Install new short bolts.
- Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in three stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 20 Nm (14 lb-ft).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 40 Nm (29 lb-ft).
- Stage 3: Tighten to 50 Nm (36 lb-ft).
- Tighten the bolts in sequence in four stages: short bolts numbered 2, 4, 6 and 8:
- Stage 1: Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Stage 2: Tighten an additional 180 degrees. Long bolts numbered 1, 3, 5 and 7:
- Stage 3: Tighten to 45 Nm (33 lb-ft).
- Stage 4: Tighten an additional 180 degrees.
- Install the exhaust manifold lower studs.
- Install the push rods.
- Install the rocker arms and bolts. Tighten the bolts in two stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 32 Nm (24 lb-ft).
- Install the LH exhaust manifold. For additional information, refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD-LH .
- Install the LH valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER-LH .
- Install the generator bracket and bracket brace as an assembly, then clip the A/C wiring harness to the support bracket.
- Install the generator bracket and brace bolts.
- Install the idler pulley.
- Install the generator. For additional information, refer to GENERATOR .
- Install the lower intake manifold. For additional information, refer to LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD .
CAUTION:
Always use new bolts.
NOTE:
Lubricate the bolts with clean engine oil prior to installation.
CAUTION:
Do not loosen all of the bolts at one time. Each bolt must be loosened and the final tightening carried out prior to working on the next bolt in the sequence.

Lubricate the push rods with clean engine oil prior to installation.
