Removal & Installation

- Restraints Control Module (RCM) is located on center tunnel, behind utility compartment at lower center of instrument panel. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
- Remove 4 push pins retaining utility compartment to metal support. Pull utility compartment toward rear of vehicle to disengage 4 retaining clips, and remove utility compartment. Roll right side carpet back and remove 2 RCM bracket retaining bolts. Roll left side carpet back. Disengage 2 RCM connector locking clips. Disconnect RCM connectors. Remove 2 RCM bracket retaining bolts. Remove RCM.CAUTION: RCM mounting bolts that are not properly tightened may result in air bag system malfunction. Improper air bag system operation may result. Ensure RCM mounting bolts are tightened to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Connect negative battery cable. With air bag simulators installed at all deployable devices, perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
