Pinpoint Test K: The Windshield Washer Pump Is In Operative

- K1 CHECK CIRCUIT 1300 (VT) FOR GROUND
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C1348.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the resistance between windshield wiper motor C1348-12, circuit 1300 (VT), harness side and ground while depressing the steering column multifunction switch to the windshield wiper WASH position.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to K3.
- No : GO to K2.
- K2 CHECK THE STEERING COLUMN MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Steering Column Multifunction Switch C202a.
- Carry out the steering column multifunction switch component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING article.
- Did the steering column multifunction switch pass the component test?
- Yes : REPAIR circuit 1300 (VT) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : INSTALL a new steering column multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES .
- K3 CHECK CIRCUIT 941 (BK/WH) FOR GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Connect: Windshield Wiper Motor C1348.
- Disconnect: Windshield Washer Pump Motor C137.
- Measure the resistance between windshield washer pump motor C137-2, circuit 941 (BK/WH) harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to K4.
- No : GO to K8.
- K4 CHECK CIRCUIT 946 (VT/LG) FOR GROUND
- Measure the resistance between windshield washer pump motor C137-1, circuit 946 (VT/LG) harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to K5.
- No : GO to K7.
- K5 CHECK CIRCUIT 946 (VT/LG) FOR VOLTAGE
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between windshield washer pump motor C137-1, circuit 946 (VT/LG) harness side and ground while depressing the steering column multifunction switch to the rear window wiper WASH position.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to K6.
- No : GO to K9
- K6 CHECK CIRCUIT 941 (BK/WH) FOR VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Connect: Rear Window Wiper Motor C476.
- Disconnect: Windshield Washer Pump Motor C137.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between windshield washer pump motor C137-2, circuit 941 (BK/WH) harness side and ground while depressing the steering column multifunction switch to the windshield wiper wash position.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : INSTALL a new windshield washer pump. REFER to WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to K9.
- K7 CHECK CIRCUIT 946 (VT/LG) FOR OPEN
- Disconnect: Rear Window Wiper Motor C4171.
- Measure the resistance between rear window wiper motor C4171-7, circuit 946 (VT/LG), harness side and windshield washer pump motor C137-1, circuit 946 (VT/LG), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to K9.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- K8 CHECK CIRCUIT 941 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C1348.
- Measure the resistance between windshield wiper motor C1348-7, circuit 941 (BK/WH), harness side and windshield washer pump motor C137-2, circuit 941 (BK/WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to K9.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- K9 CHECK FOR CORRECT WIPER MOTOR OPERATION
- Disconnect all wiper motor connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all wiper motor connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : For the windshield wiper motor GO to K10. For the rear window wiper motor GO to K11.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
- K10 CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C1348.
- Carry out the windshield wiper motor component test as outlined in this article.
- Did the windshield wiper motor pass the component test?
- Yes : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by binding or incorrect pivot arm adjustment. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR .
- K11 CHECK THE REAR WINDOW WIPER MOTOR
- Carry out the rear window wiper motor component test as outlined in this article.
- Did the rear window wiper motor pass the component test?
- Yes : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by binding or incorrect pivot arm adjustment. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : INSTALL a new rear window wiper motor. REFER to REAR WINDOW WIPER MOTOR .
