Test F: Generator Is Noisy

- Check For Accessory Drive Noise & Mounting Brackets
Turn ignition off. Check accessory drive belt for damage and correct installation. Check mounting brackets and pulleys for looseness and damage. Is the accessory drive okay? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair as necessary. Test system for normal operation. - Check Generator For Excessive Electrical Noise
Disconnect generator 3-pin harness connector. Start engine and let idle. Is the noise still present? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace generator. See GENERATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. - Check Generator For Mechanical Noise
Turn ignition off. Connect generator harness connector. Start engine and let idle. Turn all accessories off. Using a stethoscope, check generator for unusual mechanical noise. Is the generator the noise source? If yes, replace generator. See GENERATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If no, diagnose source of engine noise.
