Test I: Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) Failure (DTC B2290): Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Mercury Monterey and 2004 Ford Freestar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Restraints Control Module (RCM) monitors Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) circuits for faults. If RCM detects low resistance, open circuit, short to battery, short to ground or improper module mounting, it will store Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2290 in memory. AIR BAG warning light will also flash Light Flash Code (LFC). Refer to table for corresponding LFC and associated fault. See OCS LIGHT FLASH CODES (LFCS)  table.

OCS LIGHT FLASH CODES (LFCS)

LFC Description of fault
1-6 OCS communication fault
11-8 OCS module fault
11-9 OCS calibration fault
11-10 OCS sensing element fault
11-11 OCS mounting fault
