Pinpoint Test I: The Video System Is Inoperative

  1. I1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT THE DIGITAL VERSATILE DISC (DVD) UNIT 
    • Disconnect: DVD Unit C949.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the DVD unit C949-1, circuit 1001 (WH/YE), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 

    Yes 

    GO to I2.

    No 

    REPAIR the circuit (s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

  2. I2 CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUITS TO THE DVD UNIT 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the DVD unit C949-3, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground; and between the DVD unit C949-16, circuit 1203 (BK/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes 

    GO to I3.

    No 

    REPAIR the circuit (s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

  3. I3 CHECK THE WAKE UP SIGNAL TO THE DVD UNIT 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Turn on the audio unit.
    • Measure the voltage between the DVD unit C949-20, circuit 1068 (LG/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is there voltage present with the audio unit on? 

    Yes 

    GO to I4.

    No 

    REPAIR the circuit (s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

  4. I4 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE DVD UNIT AND THE AUDIO UNIT 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the DVD unit C949-18, circuit 832 (LB/PK), harness side and audio unit C240a-6 (DM100), or C290b-7 (CD6), circuit 832 (LB/PK), harness side and ground; and between the DVD unit C949-19, circuit 833 (TN), harness side and audio unit C240a-7 (DM100), or C290b-8 (CD6), circuit 833 (TN), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the DVD unit and the audio unit and greater than 10,000 ohms between the audio unit and ground? 

    Yes 

    INSTALL a new DVD unit. REFER to DIGITAL VERSATILE DISC (DVD) PLAYER . TEST the system for normal operation.

    No 

    REPAIR the circuit (s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
