Front Seat Backrest: Assembly

    Vehicles With Side Air Bags 

  1. Install the side air bag module. For additional information, refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .
  2. All Vehicles 

    WARNING: Make sure the anti-squeak mat is correctly placed onto the backrest frame. Do not cover the side air bag module. Failure to follow this warning could impair air bag deployment and may result in personal injury.

  3. Install the anti-squeak mat.
  4. WARNING: Make sure the backrest pad is correctly placed around the side air bag module. Failure to follow this warning could impair air bag deployment and may result in personal injury.

  5. Install the backrest pad.
  6. If a new backrest pad is being installed a hole must be drilled in the pad to facilitate the wiring harness.

  7. Install the backrest heater mat. For additional information, refer to SEAT BACKREST HEATER MAT .
  8. Install the tensioning rods into the backrest cover if a new backrest cover is to be installed.
  9. Attach the backrest cover to the underside of the top of the seat frame.
    • Attach the retaining strip.

  10. Vehicles With Side Air Bags 

  11. Attach the plastic retaining strip to secure the side air bag deployment sleeve.

  12. WARNING: Do not re-use the plastic retaining rivet. Always use the new rivet from the service kit. Failure to follow this warning could impair the air bag deployment and may result in personal injury.
  13. Install the side air bag module deployment sleeve retainer.
    • Assemble the plastic rivet into the plastic retaining strip attaching the side air bag module deployment sleeve.

  14. All Vehicles 

  15. Use hog ring pliers to close the hog rings. Do not use any other tool. The hog rings must be closed to overlap as illustrated.

  16. Attach the backrest cover to the spring frame.
    • Install the hog rings.

  17. Roll the backrest cover down the backrest to the upper end of the spring frame.

  18. Attach the upper ends of the tensioning rods to the backrest.

  19. Roll the backrest cover down the backrest to the lower end of the spring frame.
  20. Attach the lower ends of the tensioning rods to the backrest.

  21. Roll the backrest cover down the backrest.
  22. Install the backrest cover.
    • Attach the retaining strip.

  23. 3-Door 

  24. Install the backrest release lever.

  25. All Vehicles 

  26. Install the backrest lumbar support adjust lever (if equipped).
  27. Install the head restraint guides.

  28. Install the head restraint.
  29. Reactivate the SRS. For additional information, refer to ACTIVATING SYSTEM .
