SYMPTOM SPECIFICATION

Condition Possible Sources Action
  • The engine cranks slowly
  • Battery.
  • Ignition switch.
  • Starter motor.
  • Circuitry.
  • CARRY OUT the Starter Motor-Motor Feed Circuit and/or the Starter Motor- Ground Circuit. REFER to COMPONENT TESTS .
  • The engine does not crank
  • Battery.
  • Central junction box (CJB) fuse 201 (5A).
  • Auxiliary junction box (AJB) fuse 121 (30A).
  • Battery junction box (BJB) fuse 422 (20A).
  • Ignition switch.
  • Starter relay.
  • Anti-theft system.
  • Circuitry.
  • Unusual starter noise
  • Starter motor.
  • Starter motor mounting.
  • Incorrect starter motor drive engagements.
  • The starter spins but the engine does not crank
  • Starter motor.
  • INSPECT the starter motor mounting and engagement.
  • Broken flywheel/ring gear teeth.
  • INSPECT the flywheel/ring gear for broke, missing or worn teeth. REPAIR as necessary.
