The Escape Hybrid has 3 methods of calculating vehicle speed:

• from the anti-lock brake system (ABS).
• from the transaxle control module (TCM).
• from the powertrain control module (PCM) engine speed and the TCM generator speed.

This pinpoint test is intended to determine which of the 3 vehicle speed inputs caused the PCM vehicle speed DTC.
