Automatic Transmission: Installation: Transaxle: Installation

  1. Install the rear engine support bracket and bolts.
    • Tighten to 62 Nm (46 lb-ft).

  2. Install the shift cable bracket.
    • Tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).

  3. Install the anti-roll restrictor bracket and the bolts.
    • Tighten to 62 Nm (46 lb-ft).

  4. Install the anti-roll restrictor and bolt.
    • Tighten to 62 Nm (46 lb-ft).

  5. NOTE: Locate and align the orange dot adjacent to the stud on the torque converter and place it in the 6 o'clock position.

  6. Install the transaxle.
    • Position the transaxle on a suitable transmission jack.
    • Apply multi-purpose grease to the torque converter pilot hub.
  7. Install the RH engine-to-transaxle bracket bolts.
    • Tighten to 62 Nm (46 lb-ft).

  8. Install the transaxle retaining bolt.
    • Tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).

  9. Install the transaxle retaining bolt.
    • Tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).

  10. Install new torque to flexplate nuts.
    • Tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).

  11. Install the transaxle housing cover.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  12. Install the starter motor. For additional information, refer to STARTING SYSTEM .
  13. Install the LH halfshaft.

  15. CAUTION: If the steering gear was removed with the subframe and there is evidence that the steering column intermediate shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be recentered before the vehicle is driven or damage to the clockspring can result. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
  16. Install the subframe assembly. For additional information, refer to UNI-BODY SUBFRAME AND MOUNTING SYSTEM .
  17. Remove the LH Engine Lifting Bracket.

  18. Remove the RH Engine Lifting Bracket.

  19. Remove the special tools.

  20. Install the bolts.
    • Tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).

  21. Reconnect the transmission fluid cooler tubes.

  22. Install the transmission fluid cooler tube retaining clips.

  23. Install the bracket and ground cable.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  24. Verify that the digital transmission range (TR) sensor is correctly adjusted. For additional information, refer to DIGITAL TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SENSOR  in this article.
  25. Install the manual control lever cable and nut.
    1. Install the manual control lever cable into the bracket.
    2. Install the nut.
      • Tighten to 13 Nm (10 lb-ft).

  26. Reconnect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor connector.

  27. Reconnect the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor.

  28. Install the electrical connector bracket.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  29. Install the power steering line bracket.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  30. Reconnect the connector.

  31. Reconnect the TR and transaxle electrical connector.

  32. Install the battery tray and connect the relay box.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  33. Install the air filter assembly.

  34. Install the engine air cleaner.

  35. Reconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor and the breather tubes.

  36. Install the battery. For additional information, refer to BATTERY MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  37. Fill the transaxle using clean automatic transmission fluid.
  38. Start the engine. Move the transaxle range selector lever through all positions. Check the fluid level.
