WARNING:
Before working on or disconnecting any of the fuel tubes or fuel system components, relieve the fuel system pressure to prevent accidental spraying of fuel. Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure, even when the engine is not running. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
All vehicles
- Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to Fuel System Pressure Release .
- Disconnect the fuel tube-to-fuel rail quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to Quick Connect Coupling .
- Install the special tool between the fuel tube and the fuel rail.
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING - 3.0L (4V) article.
- Disconnect the fuel tube-to-fuel rail quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to Quick Connect Coupling .
- Install the special tool and fuel test adapter between the fuel tube and the fuel rail.
- Install the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING - 3.0L (4V) article.
- Connect the FP driver module electrical connector.
- Cycle the ignition key and wait 3 seconds to pressurize the fuel system. Check for leaks before starting the engine.
- Test the fuel system pressure to make sure it is within the specified range. For additional information, refer to Specifications.
Vehicles with 2.3L engine
Vehicles with 3.0L engine
NOTE:
Use a commercially available fuel test adapter (such as OTC® 18527).
NOTE:
The air cleaner outlet pipe must be installed prior to completing the fuel system pressure test.
All vehicles
NOTE:
The fuel pump (FP) driver module electrical connector that was disconnected to release the fuel system pressure must be reconnected to test the fuel system pressure.
NOTE:
It may take more than one key cycle to pressurize the fuel system.
NOTE:
Upon completion of the fuel system pressure test, open the drain valve on the special tool and release fuel system pressure and drain any residual fuel into a suitable container prior to removing the tool
