Pinpoint Test

  1. VERIFY THAT THE SCAN TOOL COMMUNICATES WITH THE Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
    1. Connect the scan tool.
    2. Check that a vehicle session can be established using the scan tool.
      • Can a vehicle session be established? 
      1. Yes:  GO to 2  on page 2.
      2. No:  REFER to DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE A .
  2. CHECK THE Cruise-Control Module (C-CM) CONTINUOUS MEMORY Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, perform the Cruise-Control Module (C-CM) self-test.
    3. Clear the continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from all modules.
    4. Ignition OFF.
    5. Wait at least 10 seconds.
    6. Ignition ON.
    7. Repeat the Cruise-Control Module (C-CM) self-test.
      • Is Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0100:00 retrieved again? 
      1. Yes:  GO to 3  on page 2.
      2. No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
  3. CHECK FOR CONTINUOUS MEMORY Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) SELF-TEST
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the Cruise-Control Module (C-CM) self-test.
      • Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 
      1. Yes:  REFER to DTC CHART: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
      2. No:  GO to 4  on page 2.
  4. CHECK THE Cruise-Control Module (C-CM) FOR BATTERY VOLTAGE OUT-OF-RANGE Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
    1. Check for recorded Cruise-Control Module (C-CM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the self-test.
      • Is Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U3003:16 or Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U3003:17 recorded? 
      1. Yes:  REFER to DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE Q  or REFER to DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE R .
      2. No:  GO to 5  on page 2.
  5. CHECK FOR Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0100:00 SET IN OTHER MODULES
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Retrieve the continuous memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from all modules.
      • Is Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0100:00 set in multiple modules? 
      1. Yes:  INSTALL a new Powertrain Control Module (PCM). REFER to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
      2. No:  INSTALL a new Cruise-Control Module (C-CM). REFER to CRUISE CONTROL MODULE (C-CM) .
