Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2011 Mercury Milan, 2011 Lincoln MKZ, and 2011 Ford Fusion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON.
NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
  1. Remove the passenger seat. For additional information, refer to SEAT SYSTEM - SEATS -- FUSION, MILAN & MKZ article.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  3. NOTE: Make sure to remove all metal chips from the Occupant Classification System Module (OCSM) and the surrounding areas after drilling out the rivets. Failure to follow this instruction may result in component damage and/or system failure.
  4. Drill out the 2 rivets and remove the Occupant Classification System Module (OCSM).
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  6. If installing a new OCSM, carry out the system reset procedure. For additional information, refer to OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR (OCS) SYSTEM RESET  in the General Procedures portion of this service information.
