Powertrain/Drivetrain Mount Neutralizing

NOTE: Refer to the appropriate information and procedure for special instructions on loosening and tightening mount fasteners.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING article.
  2. NOTE: 2.5L shown in illustration, other engines similar.

  3. Loosen, but do not remove, the RH mount fasteners.
  4. NOTE: Automatic transmission shown in illustration, manual transmission similar.

  5. Loosen, but do not remove, the LH mount fasteners.

  7. Loosen, but do not remove, the rear powertrain/drivetrain roll restrictor fastener.

  9. Loosen, but do not remove, the front powertrain/drivetrain roll restrictor fastener.
  10. NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spring nuts or damage may occur to the exhaust Y-pipe flange studs.
    NOTE: When loosening the converter-to-exhaust Y-pipe spring nuts, alternately loosen the nuts from side to side.
  11. Remove and discard the 2 exhaust catalytic converter-to-exhaust Y-pipe spring nuts. Refer to the appropriate Engine article for the procedure.
  12. NOTE: Do not twist or strain the powertrain/drivetrain mounts or damage to the mounts may occur.
    NOTE: Engine and transmission mount fasteners removed for clarity.
    NOTE: 2.5L and Automatic transmission shown in illustration, other powertrains similar.

  13. Center the engine and transmission mount studs to the center of the slots in the mount brackets.
  14. Tighten the engine and transmission mount fasteners. Refer to the appropriate Engine article for the procedure.
  15. Rock the powertrain/drivetrain assembly forward and rearward to ensure the roll restrictors are not bound.
  16. NOTE: Automatic transmission shown in illustration, manual transmission similar.

  17. With the powertrain/drivetrain assembly at a rest position that is equally distant from the maximum forward position and the maximum rearward position, tighten the front powertrain/drivetrain roll restrictor fastener. Refer to the appropriate Engine article for the procedure.
  18. NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spring nuts or damage may occur to the exhaust Y-pipe flange studs.
  19. Install 2 new catalytic converter-to-exhaust Y-pipe spring nuts. Refer to the appropriate Engine article for the procedure.
  20. Test the system for normal operation.
  21. NOTE: Automatic transmission shown in illustration, manual transmission similar.
  22. Tighten the rear powertrain/drivetrain roll restrictor fastener. Refer to the appropriate Engine article for the procedure.
