Pinpoint Test I: Cannot Program The MYKEY™ Feature
- I1 CHECK THE UNLIMITED KEY MODE STATUS NOTE: Make sure the vehicle is not remote started. If the vehicle is remote started, the remote start system may have been programmed as a MyKey™ and therefore the program/configure/disable function is inoperative. This should not occur if the vehicle is equipped with a Ford approved remote start system. If the remote start system type cannot be verified, it is safer to make sure the vehicle is not remote started.
- Ignition OFF.
- Connect the scan tool.
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC DataLogger.
- Review the IC PID UNL_KEY_MODE.
- Does IC PID UNL_KEY_MODE display "Disable"?
- Yes : GO to I2.
- No : DISABLE the unlimited key mode. REFER to SPARE KEY PROGRAMMING - UNLIMITED KEY MODE .
- I2 DETERMINE THE STATUS OF THE KEY IN THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Observe the message center.
- Does the message center display "MYKEY ACTIVE, DRIVE SAFELY"?
- Yes
: The MyKey™ restricted key is already programmed and is in the ignition lock cylinder. REFER to MYKEY® PROGRAMMING
if it is desired to configure or disable the MyKey™ feature.
If the concern is that the MyKey™ restricted key cannot be configured or disabled, GO to PINPOINT TEST J .
- No : The key in the ignition lock cylinder is an admin key. GO to I3.
- I3 REVIEW THE MESSAGE CENTER INFORMATION TO DETERMINE THE NUMBER OF ADMIN KEYS
- Using the admin key in the ignition lock cylinder, press the SETUP button on the message center control buttons until SYSTEM CHECK is displayed.
- Press RESET to review the message center information to determine how many admin keys are programmed into the IC.
- Does the IC message center indicate there are 2 or more admin keys programmed into the IC?
- Yes : GO to I4.
- No : There must always be at least one admin key. The IC does not allow the last admin key to be programmed into a MyKey™ restricted key. The concern is product characteristic. RELEASE the vehicle to the customer and explain the vehicle operating characteristics.
- I4 CHECK FOR CORRECT IC OPERATION
- Disconnect the IC connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the IC connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new IC. REFER to INSTRUMENTATION, MESSAGE CENTER, AND WARNING CHIMES article. RESET the parameters in both the IC and the PCM. REFER to PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) PARAMETER RESET . PROGRAM the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) keys into the new IC. REFER to INTEGRATED KEYHEAD TRANSMITTER (IKT) KEY PROGRAMMING USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
