Brake Light Switch: Service and Repair




Stoplamp Switch

WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure, REFER to Safety Warnings . Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

Removal

1. Remove the steering column cover trim panel and the steering column cover. REFER to Instrument Panel - Exploded View .

2. NOTICE: Do not press, pull or otherwise move the brake pedal while installing the stoplamp switch and cruise control deactivation switch. Install these switches with the booster push rod attached to the brake pedal and with the brake pedal in the at-rest position. Installing these switches with the brake pedal in any other position results in incorrect adjustment and damages the switches.

Disconnect the stoplamp switch electrical connector and rotate the stoplamp switch clockwise approximately one-eighth turn to remove the stoplamp switch.

Installation

1. NOTICE: Do not press, pull or otherwise move the brake pedal while installing the stoplamp switch and cruise control deactivation switch. Install these switches with the booster push rod attached to the brake pedal and with the brake pedal in the at-rest position. Installing these switches with the brake pedal in any other position results in incorrect adjustment and damages the switches.

Install the stoplamp switch and rotate counter clockwise approximately one-eighth turn and connect the stoplamp electrical connector.

2. Install the steering column cover and steering column cover trim panel. REFER to Instrument Panel - Exploded View .
