Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK THE FRONT WIPER COMMAND LOW SPEED (F_WIP_SLO_SW) PID
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, view SCCM PIDs  .
    3. While monitoring the SCCM PID F_WIP_SLO_SW, place the wiper/washer switch into the windshield wiper LOW speed position.

    Does the PID read ON when the wiper/washer switch is in the LOW speed position? 

    • Yes: If the vehicle is equipped with rain sensitive wipers, GO to .

      If the vehicle is not equipped with rain sensitive wipers, GO to  3.

    • No: INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch. REFER to Wiper and Washer Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.

      If the concern is still present, GO to  9.

  2. ISOLATE THE RAIN SENSOR
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Rain Sensor.
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. Operate the windshield wipers in low speed.

    Do the windshield wipers operate in low speed? 

    • Yes: INSTALL a new rain sensor. REFER to Rain Sensor .
    • No: GO to .
  3. CHECK THE WIPER PARK OPERATION
    1. Place the windshield wiper switch in the HIGH position.
    2. When the wiper blades are in the middle of the sweep pattern, place the windshield wiper switch in the OFF position.

    Do the windshield wipers complete the sweep and then park correctly? 

    • Yes: GO to  5.
    • No: GO to .
  4. CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR LOGIC GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor.
    3. Measure:
      Windshield Wiper Motor Ground

      C125 Ground
      Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
      3 GD120 (BK/GN)
      G08040901
      - Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

  5. CHECK THE LIN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: SCCM C2414A.
    3. Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor.
    4. Measure:
      Windshield Wiper Motor SCCM

      Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
      4 VDN05 (YE/GY)

      20 VDN05 (YE/GY)

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    • Yes: GO to .
    • No: REPAIR the circuit.
  6. CHECK THE LIN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Measure:
      SCCM Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    • Yes: GO to .
    • No: REPAIR the circuit.
  7. CHECK THE LIN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Measure:
      SCCM Ground

      - Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    • Yes: REPAIR the circuit.
    • No: GO to .
  8. CHECK FOR CORRECT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Inspect the windshield wiper motor electrical connector.
    3. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminal - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    4. Connect: Windshield Wiper Motor.
    5. Connect: SCCM C2414A.
    6. Connect: Rain Sensor (if equipped).
    7. Make sure the electrical connectors seat and latch correctly.
    8. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    • Yes: CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to Wiper Motor - Windshield .

      OPERATE the system and DETERMINE if the concern is still present. If the concern is still present, GO to .

    • No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  9. CHECK FOR CORRECT SCCM OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect and inspect all of the SCCM electrical connectors.
    3. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminal - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    4. Connect all of the SCCM electrical connectors.
    5. Make sure all electrical connectors seat and latch correctly.
    6. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    • Yes: CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new SCCM. REFER to STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE (SCCM) .
    • No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
