Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK THE AWD RELAY MODULE FOR VOLTAGE
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: AWD Relay Module.
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. Measure:
    AWD Relay Module AWD Relay Module

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

    1. Yes:  GO to .
    2. No  : GO to .
  2. CHECK THE AWD RELAY MODULE VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT
    1. Measure:
    AWD Relay Module Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

    1. Yes:  REPAIR the AWD relay module ground circuit for an open.
    2. No  : VERIFY BJB fuse 70 (10A) is OK. If fuse is OK, REPAIR the AWD relay module voltage supply circuit for an open. If BJB fuse 70 (10A) is not OK, REFER to the appropriate OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS to identify possible causes of the circuit short.
  3. CHECK THE AWD RELAY MODULE CONTROL AND FEEDBACK CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: PCM C175B.
    3. Ignition ON.
    4. Measure:
    AWD Relay Module Ground

    Is any voltage present?

    1. Yes:  REPAIR the affected circuit(s) for a short to voltage.
    2. No  : GO to .
  4. CHECK THE AWD RELAY MODULE CONTROL AND FEEDBACK CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Measure:

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms?

    1. Yes:  GO to .
    2. No  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s) for a short to ground.
  5. CHECK THE AWD RELAY MODULE CONTROL AND FEEDBACK CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
    1. Measure:

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?

    1. Yes:  GO to .
    2. No  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s) for an open.
  6. CHECK THE AWD RELAY MODULE CONTROL AND FEEDBACK CIRCUITS A SHORT TOGETHER
    1. Measure:

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?

    1. Yes:  GO to .
    2. No  : REPAIR the affected circuit(s) for a short together.
  7. CHECK FOR CORRECT AWD RELAY MODULE OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect and inspect all PCM connectors and the AWD relay module connector.
    3. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    4. Reconnect the PCM connectors and the AWD relay module connector. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

    1. Yes:  CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB exists for this concern, discontinue this test and follow TSB instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new AWD relay module. REFER to All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Relay Module . CLEAR all DTCs  . REPEAT self-test. If DTC P188C or P188D is retrieved again, INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) - 3.5L TI-VCT
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. Address the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
