Pinpoint Test

  1. RETRIEVE DTCs  FROM THE PCM KOEO SELF-TEST
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, perform PCM KOEO self-test to retrieve DTCs  .

Are any charging system DTCs  present in the PCM?

    1. Yes:  REFER to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHARTS AND DESCRIPTIONS for diagnosis of charging system DTCs  .
    2. No  : GO to .
  2. CHECK BATTERY CONDITION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Carry out the battery condition test. REFER to DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE A : Battery Condition Test.

Does the battery pass the condition test?

    1. Yes:  If the battery passed the condition test but required a recharge, REFER to SYMPTOM CHART: CHARGING SYSTEM to diagnose the charging system.

If the battery passed the condition test and did not require a recharge, GO to .

    2. No  : INSTALL a new battery. REFER to BATTERY .
  3. CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM VOLTAGE
NOTE: Do not allow the engine rpm to exceed 2, 000 rpm while carrying out this step or the generator may self-excite, resulting in default charging system output voltage. If engine rpm has exceeded 2, 000 rpm, shut the vehicle off and restart the engine before carrying out this step.
    1. Start the engine.
    2. Measure the voltage of the battery.
      • For DTC B11D9:17, turn off all accessories and run the engine at 1, 500 rpm for a minimum of 2 minutes.
      • For DTC B11D9:16, turn on headlights and HVAC fan on high and run engine at 1, 500 rpm for a minimum of 2 minutes.

Is the battery voltage between 13-15.2 volts?

    1. Yes:  For DTC B11D9:16, GO to .

For DTC B11D9:17, INSTALL a new ATCM. REFER to All Terrain Control Module (ATCM)

    2. No  : REFER to SYMPTOM CHART: CHARGING SYSTEM to diagnose the charging system.
  4. CHECK THE ATCM VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR HIGH RESISTANCE
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: ATCM.
    3. START engine.
    4. Measure:
    ATCM Ground
    G08032786
    G08032787
    C3639 Ground
Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
    1 CBP35 (YE/GY)
    G08032788
    - Ground

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

    1. Yes:  GO to .
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit CBP35 (YE/GY) for high resistance.
  5. CHECK THE ATCM GROUND CIRCUIT FOR HIGH RESISTANCE
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Measure:
    ATCM Ground
    G08032789
    G08032790
    C3639 Ground
Pin Circuit Measurement / Action Pin Circuit
    7 GD214 (BK/BU)
    G08032791
    - Ground

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

    1. Yes:  GO to .
    2. No  : REPAIR circuit GD214 (BK/BU) for high resistance.
  6. CHECK FOR CORRECT ATCM OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect and inspect ATCM connector.
    3. Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    4. Reconnect the ATCM connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
    5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

    1. Yes:  CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new ATCM. REFER to All Terrain Control Module (ATCM)
    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. Address the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
