Pinpoint Test J: The Air Conditioning (Ac) Is Always On - Ac Mode Always Commanded On

  1. J1: CHECK THE AIR CONDITIONING SWITCH STATUS (CC_SW_AC) PID WITH THE A/C (AIR CONDITIONING) OFF 
    • Using a scan tool, view HVAC control module PIDs.
    • Monitor the CC_SW_AC PID.

    Does the PID read off? 

    1. Yes:  GO to J2
    2. No:  GO to  J4
  2. J2 CHECK THE AIR CONDITIONING REQUEST SIGNAL (AC_REQ) PID WITH THE A/C (AIR CONDITIONING) OFF 
    • Using a scan tool, view PCM PIDs.
    • Monitor the AC_REQ PID
    • Select MAX A/C on the HVAC control module.

    Does the PID read OFF? 

    1. Yes:  GO to  J5
    2. No:  GO to J3
  3. J3 CHECK THE AIR CONDITIONING REQUEST SIGNAL (AC_REQ) PID WITH THE A/C (AIR CONDITIONING) OFF 
    • Disconnect HVAC Module C228A.
    • Using a scan tool, view PCM PIDs.
    • Monitor the AC_REQ PID.

    Does the PID read OFF? 

    1. Yes:  GO to  J5
    2. No:  GO to J4
  4. J4 CHECK FOR CORRECT HVAC (HEATING, VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITIONING) MODULE OPERATION 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect all the HVAC control module connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the HVAC control module connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    1. Yes:  CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new HVAC control module.

      REFER to: Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Control Module  .

    2. No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. Address the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  5. J5 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect all the PCM connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the PCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    1. Yes:  CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new PCM.

      For 2.0L Duratec-HE REFER to: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .

      For 2.0L Ecoboost REFER to: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .

    2. No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. Address the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
