All columns 

  1. Remove the steering column. For additional information, refer to Steering Column .
  2. NOTE: Do not apply excessive force to the column while mounted to the Transmission Holding Fixture or damage to the column may occur.

  3. Using the Transmission Holding Fixture, mount the steering column.

    Column shift 

  4. Remove the retainer and detach the ignition key cable lock.
    • Detach the 2 overdrive cancel switch wiring retainers and the connector.
  5. Remove the bolt, 2 screws and the shifter assembly.
    • To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).

    All columns 

  6. Remove the 3 bolts and the multifunction switch carrier.
  7. Remove the screw and the ignition switch.
    • To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
  8. Detach the tabs and remove the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) transceiver.
  9. Remove the 2 bolts and the steering wheel rotation sensor.
    • To install, tighten to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).
    NOTE: The D shape on the lower steering column shaft needs to engage on the bearing when installing.
  10. Release the 4 tabs and remove the lower steering column bearing.
  11. With the tilt lever in the full up position, grasp the tilt housing spring in the center and pull outward to remove.

  12. Remove the 2 screws and separate the steering column tilt housing assembly from the steering column.
    • Discard the screws.
    • To install, tighten the new screws to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  13. Rotate the tilt lever and remove the lever.
    • Remove the tilt lever spring.

  14. Index-mark the upper steering column and lower shafts for reference during assembly.

  15. Rotate the steering column lower shaft upward and separate the lower shaft from the upper shaft.
  16. To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.
    • Apply the specified grease to the pivot points on the tilt lever and the pivot pins.
