Select Shift Transmission
The select shift transmission switch is a momentary contact switch that is located on the column shift selector lever or the floor shift selector lever knob. To activate the select shift feature, place the selector lever into the M (manual) position and press the plus (+) or minus (-) on the column shift selector lever or floor shift selector lever knob. When the selector lever is in the D position the select shift transmission allows the driver to progressively lock out overdrive gears but keeps the transmission shifting automatically through lower gears. When towing in busy traffic or hilly areas, this prevents the transmission from shift hunting when loads cannot be pulled in overdrive gears.
When the selector lever is moved to the M position the driver has control over transmission shifting by manually selecting which gear to operate in.
Enabling the select shift is achieved by pressing the toggle switch located on the selector lever. Once the switch is applied all available gears are displayed above the PRNDL display. The current gear is displayed in orange and all other gears are displayed in ice blue.
When moving the selector lever into the M position all displayed gears on the IC are illuminated except the gear the transmission is in. Pressing plus (+) on the toggle switch once shifts the transmission to the next highest gear. Pressing minus (-) on the toggle switch once shifts the transmission to the next lowest gear. If downshifting the transmission causes an engine overspeed the desired gear flashes above the PRNDL display then goes out indicating a shift was attempted but not achieved.
When select shift is not enabled only the PRNDL remains illuminated and the row above remains dark.
