Diagnostics in this manual assume a certain skill level and knowledge of Ford-specific diagnostic practices.

SYMPTOM CHART

Condition Possible Sources Actions
Unable to duplicate the customer concern Refer to Diagnostic Routine GO to Pinpoint Test C 
Reduced outlet airflow Refer to Diagnostic Routine
  • If the A/C is always ON with mode selection switch turned OFF and PCM DTC P1464 is not present, GO to Pinpoint Test H 
  • If the A/C is always ON with mode selection switch turned OFF and PCM DTC P1464 is present, GO to Pinpoint Test I 
  • If the A/C turns on and off normally with the mode selection switch GO to Pinpoint Test L 
The air inlet door is inoperative Refer to Diagnostic Routine GO to Pinpoint Test D 
Incorrect/erratic direction of airflow from outlets Refer to Diagnostic Routine GO to Pinpoint Test E 
Insufficient, erratic or no heat Refer to Diagnostic Routine GO to Pinpoint Test F 
The Air Conditioning (A/C) is inoperative Refer to Diagnostic Routine GO to Pinpoint Test G 
The Air Conditioning (A/C) is always on Refer to Diagnostic Routine GO to Pinpoint Test H 
The Air Conditioning (A/C) is always on - Air Conditioning (A/C) mode always commanded ON Refer to Diagnostic Routine GO to Pinpoint Test I 
Temperature control is inoperative/does not operate correctly Refer to Diagnostic Routine GO to Pinpoint Test J 
The blower motor is inoperative Refer to Diagnostic Routine GO to Pinpoint Test K 
The blower motor does not operate correctly Refer to Diagnostic Routine GO to Pinpoint Test L 
Air Conditioning (A/C) pressure relief valve discharging
  • High system pressure
  • Air Conditioning (A/C) pressure relief valve
CHECK the high-side system pressure. If the pressure is below the A/C pressure relief valve open pressure, INSTALL a new A/C pressure relief valve. If the system pressure is above the A/C pressure relief valve open pressure, REPAIR the system for a restriction.
