Pinpoint Test D: TCS (Transmission Control Switch) /Grade Assist

  1. D1 RETRIEVE AND RECORD ALL DTCS 
    • Using the diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    Is DTC P1780 present? 

    1. Yes:  GO to D2 
    2. No:  REFER to: Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes  ( INSTRUMENTATION, MESSAGE CENTER AND WARNING CHIMES .
  2. D2 CHECK THE BJB FUSE 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Remove the BJB fuse 38 (15A).
    • CHECK Fuse 38 (15A).

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes:  GO to  D6
    2. No:  GO to D3 
  3. D3 CHECK FOR PCM DTCS 
    • Using the diagnostic scan tool, retrieve PCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    Is DTC P0562 or U0100 present? 

    1. Yes:  REFER to ENGINE CONTROLS - POWERTRAIN DTC CHARTS & DESCRIPTIONS (EXCEPT DIESEL & HYBRID) .
    2. No:  GO to D4 
  4. D4 CHECK THE TCS POWER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect Floor Shifter C3245  .
    • Measure the resistance  between.

      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C3245-6  Ω -

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    1. Yes:  GO to D5 
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  5. D5 CHECK THE TCS INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect TCM C1750A  .
    • Measure the resistance  between.

      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C3245-5  Ω -

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    1. Yes:  GO to  D8
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  6. D6 CHECK THE TCS POWER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect Floor Shifter C3245  .
    • Measure the resistance  between.

      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C3245-6  Ω BJB fuse 38 (15A)

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes:  GO to D7 
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  7. D7 CHECK THE TCS INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect TCM C1750A  .
    • Measure the resistance  between.

      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C3245-5  Ω C1750A-11 

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    1. Yes:  GO to D8 
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  8. D8 CHECK THE TCS SWITCH 
    • Measure the component side resistance  while cycling the TCS between.

    Is the resistance less than 1.5 ohms with the switch pressed and greater than 10, 000 ohms when released? 

    1. Yes:  GO to D9 
    2. No:  INSTALL a new selector lever knob.

      REFER to: Selector Lever Knob  .

  9. D9 CHECK THE TCM 
    • Install fuse 38 (15A).
    • Connect Floor Shifter C3245  .
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage  between.

    Is the voltage greater than 10 volts with the switch pressed and less than 5 volts when released? 

    1. Yes:  INSTALL a new TCM.

      REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM)  ( TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) .

    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit.
