Network Message Chart - Push Button Start: Start
To enter START mode, with a valid passive key inside the vehicle, press and hold the brake pedal, then press and release the ignition switch. Once the BCM and RFA module indicate a valid passive key is present inside the vehicle and the BCM has detected the ignition switch input with the BPP switch input, the BCM activates the ignition and accessory relays, providing ignition power to the various vehicle systems and modules. The BCM communicates the state of the ignition to the other modules by sending an ignition status message over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) and a power mode message over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN). The BCM also sends a power system status message to the IPC over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) to momentarily illuminate the module controlled indicators to prove they are functioning correctly. For IPC prove-out information, Refer to: INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) - OVERVIEW .
The engine can be started from any ignition mode. Once the ignition has entered START mode, the indicator in the ignition switch illuminates.
