Pinpoint Test J: Cannot Configure/Disable The MYKEY™ Feature
- J1 CHECK THE UNLIMITED KEY MODE STATUS NOTE: Make sure the vehicle is not remote started. If the vehicle is remote started, the remote start system may have been programmed as a MyKey® and therefore the program function is inoperative. This should not occur if the vehicle is equipped with a Ford approved remote start system. If the remote start system type cannot be verified, it is safer to make sure the vehicle is not remote started.
- Ignition OFF.
- Connect the scan tool.
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC DataLogger.
- Review the IC PID UNL_KEY_MODE.
Does IC PID UNL_KEY_MODE display "Disable"?
- Yes : GO to J2 .
- No : DISABLE the unlimited key mode. REFER to SPARE KEY PROGRAMMING - UNLIMITED KEY MODE in this article.
- J2 DETERMINE THE STATUS OF THE KEY IN THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Observe the message center.
Does the message center display "MYKEY ACTIVE, DRIVE SAFELY"?
- Yes : The MyKey® restricted key is in the ignition lock cylinder. An admin key must be used to configure/disable a MyKey® restricted key. REFER to MYKEY® PROGRAMMING in this article if it is desired to configure or disable the MyKey® Feature.
- No : The key in the ignition lock cylinder is an admin key. GO to J3 .
- J3 REVIEW THE MESSAGE CENTER INFORMATION
- Using the admin key in the ignition lock cylinder, press the SETUP button on the message center control buttons until SYSTEM CHECK is displayed.
- Press RESET to review the message center information to determine if there is a MyKey® restricted key programmed into the IC .
Does the IC message center indicate there is a MyKey® restricted key programmed into the IC ?
- Yes : If the admin key in the ignition lock cylinder cannot configure/disable the MyKey® restricted key, GO to J4 .
- No : There are no MyKey® restricted keys programmed. REFER to MYKEY® PROGRAMMING in this article to program a MyKey® restricted key.
- J4 CHECK FOR CORRECT IC OPERATION
- Disconnect the IC connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the IC connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new IC . REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . RESET the parameters in both the IC and the PCM. REFER to PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) PARAMETER RESET in this article. PROGRAM the PATS keys into the new IC . REFER to INTEGRATED KEYHEAD TRANSMITTER (IKT) KEY PROGRAMMING USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT in this article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
