Normal Operation

The PSCM runs a self test when the ignition is set to ON and the module is receiving at least 6 volts. The self test compares the software in the module to the steering gear hardware. If the 2 items are not compatible, the EPAS enters a manual steering mode and sends a request to the instrument cluster message center to alert the vehicle occupants and sends and EPAS enters a manual steering mode and sends a request to the instrument cluster message center to alert the vehicle occupants and sends and EPAS_FAILURE message to other modules on the CAN.

This test generates a RVC for a new PSCM when directed to do so from pinpoint test.

• Z1: REFLASH AND VERIFY THE PSCM DTC 

  Using a diagnostic scan tool, make sure PSCM is programmed (flashed) to the latest level of software. Follow all diagnostic scan tool instructions.

  Clear the PSCM DTCs.

  Ignition OFF.

  Wait at least 90 seconds for the modules to completely shut off.

  Ignition at least 90 seconds for the modules to completely shut off.

  Ignition ON, engine OFF.

  Press Read Vehicle Information button to retrieve DTCs from the vehicle.

  NOTE: DTCs may be displayed from previous diagnostic actions.

  Does the DTC return? 

  Yes	No
  Go to Z2.	The condition causing the DTC is not present at this time.

• Z2: OBTAIN PSCM RVC 

  Obtain the PSCM RVC.

  INSTALL a new PSCM. REFER to appropriate information in this service information or POWER STEERING SYSTEM .
