Pinpoint Test M: The RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) Transmitter Is Inoperative (Without Push Button Start)
- M1 CHECK FOR THE CORRECT RKE (REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY) TRANSMITTERS
- Check that the correct RKE transmitters are used with the vehicle.
Are the correct RKE transmitters present?
- Yes : GO to M2
- No : The system cannot be tested without the correct RKE transmitters. INFORM the customer the correct RKE transmitters must be present to proceed with diagnosis of the system.
- M2 CHECK THE RECORDED BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE SHOOTING CODES (DTCS) FROM THE SELF-TEST
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.
Is DTC B1D21:62 present?
- Yes : GO to M3
- No : GO to M4
- M3 RESYNCHRONIZE THE INOPERATIVE RKE (REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY) TRANSMITTERS
- Place the inoperative Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) in the ignition lock cylinder.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Ignition OFF.
- Press any button on the RKE transmitter.
Does the RKE transmitter operate?
- Yes : The system is OK.
- No : GO to M4
- M4 CHECK THE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE RKE (REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY) TRANSMITTER
- Press each button on the RKE transmitter.
Does any button operate correctly?
- Yes : GO to PINPOINT TEST O
- No : GO to M5
- M5 CHECK IF THE RKE (REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY) TRANSMITTER IS PROGRAMMED
- Attempt to start the vehicle using the Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT).
Does the vehicle start?
- Yes : GO to M6
- No
: PROGRAM the Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT).
REFER to: KEY PROGRAMMING USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT .
- M6 CHECK THE RKE (REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY) TRANSMITTER BATTERY
-
NOTE: Do not clean off any grease from the battery terminals on the back surface of the circuit board.
Open the suspect Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT). Refer to the Owner's Literature for the Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) battery replacement procedure.
- Verify the correct battery is used (CR2032).
- Remove the Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) battery and measure the voltage.
Is the voltage greater than 2.5 volts?
- Yes : GO to M7
- No : INSTALL a new battery (make sure the battery is seated correctly). DO NOT reprogram the Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) (weak or dead batteries do not erase Transmitter Identification Codes (TICs) memory.
-
- M7 CHECK FOR NORMAL OPERATION WITH A KNOWN GOOD RKE (REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY) TRANSMITTER
- Press a button on the customer's second RKE transmitter, or a known good RKE transmitter that is correct for the vehicle.
Does the known good RKE transmitter operate?
- Yes
: REPLACE and PROGRAM a new Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT).
REFER to: KEY PROGRAMMING USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT .
- No : GO to M8
- M8 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
- Disconnect and inspect all the BCM connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connectors or terminals-clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins-install new terminals pins
- pushed-out pins-install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect all the BCM connectors and make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
- Yes
: CHECK OASIS
for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB
exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB
instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM
.
REFER to: BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) .
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
