The Body Control Module (BCM) controls all the interior lighting functions and timing by monitoring inputs from the door ajar switches, the ignition switch, the instrument panel dimmer switch, Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system and the vehicle speed.

The BCM turns off the courtesy lamps when the vehicle speed exceeds 15 km/h (9 mph) or 5 km/h (3 mph) for running board lamps, unless the courtesy lights are turned on using the instrument panel dimmer switch.
