Test Procedure

  1. RL1 Preliminary Diagnosis 

    Are any of the following DTCs, P0420, P20CC, P20D7, P20D9, P20DA, P24A0, P2698, P269B, P269D, P269E, P26A0, present? 

    YES  For DTC P2698: 
    GO to  2
    For DTCs P0420, P24A0, P269B, P269D, P269E or P26A0: 
    GO to  3
    For all others: 
    GO to  11
    NO  RETURN to Symptom Charts for further direction.
  2. RL2 CARRY OUT A VISUAL INSPECTION 
    • Visually inspect the fuel vaporizer system glow plug nozzle for damage or fuel leaks.

    Is a concern present? 

    YES  INSTALL a new Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug assembly.
    REFER to the appropriate Exhaust System article.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    NO  GO to RL3 
  3. RL3 CHECK THE FUEL VAPORIZER SYSTEM GLOW PLUG RESISTANCE 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug Assembly connector.
    • Measure the resistance between:
      Positive Lead  Measurement / Action  Negative Lead 
      VGPPWR Pin 2, Component Side 
      Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug Assembly Connector
      Ω GND Pin 1, Component Side 
      Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug Assembly Connector

    Is the resistance between 0Ω - 2Ω? 

    YES  GO to  4
    NO  INSTALL a new Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug assembly.
    REFER to the appropriate Exhaust System article.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. RL4 CHECK THE VPWR VOLTAGE TO THE FUEL VAPORIZER SYSTEM GLOW PLUG RELAY 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug Relay connector.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage between:
      Positive Lead  Measurement / Action  Negative Lead 
      VPWR Pin 1, 3
      Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug Relay Connector
      VOLTAGE Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 10.5V? 

    YES  GO to  5
    NO  REPAIR the open circuit.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. RL5 CHECK THE FUEL VAPORIZER SYSTEM GLOW PLUG RELAY 

    Is a concern present? 

    YES  INSTALL a new Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug relay.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    NO  GO to  6
  6. RL6 CHECK THE VGPRC CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect PCM-T connector.
    • Measure the resistance between:
      Positive Lead  Measurement / Action  Negative Lead 
      VGPRC Pin 2
      Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug Relay Connector
      Ω VGPRC Pin 28
      PCM-T Connector

    Is the resistance less than 5 Ω? 

    YES  GO to  7
    NO  REPAIR the open circuit.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPAR the self-test.
  7. RL7 CHECK THE VGPRC CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between:
      Positive Lead  Measurement / Action  Negative Lead 
      VGPRC Pin 2
      Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug Relay Connector
      Ω Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10,000 Ω? 

    YES  GO to  8
    NO  REPAIR the open circuit.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPAR the self-test.
  8. RL8 CHECK THE VGPRC CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage between:
      Positive Lead  Measurement / Action  Negative Lead 
      VGPRC Pin 2
      Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug Relay Connector
      Voltage Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    YES  REPAIR the short circuit.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    NO  GO to  9
  9. RL9 CHECK THE VGPPWR AND VGPRM CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug Relay connector.
    • Measure the resistance between:
      Positive Lead  Measurement / Action  Negative Lead 
      VGPRC Pin 2
      Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug Relay Connector
      Ω VGPPWR Pin 5
      Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug Relay Connector
    • Measure the resistance between:
      Positive Lead  Measurement / Action  Negative Lead 
      VGPRM Pin 26
      PCM-T Connector
      Ω VGPPWR Pin 5
      Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug Relay Connector

    Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 

    YES  GO to  10
    NO  REPAIR the open circuit.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  10. RL10 CHECK THE VGPPWR CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage between:
      Positive Lead  Measurement / Action  Negative Lead 
      VGPPWR Pin 5
      Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug Relay Connector
      Voltage Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    YES  REPAIR the short circuit.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    NO  For DTC P2698: 
    GO to RL14 
    For DTC P0420: 
     RA4
    For DTC P24A0: 
     RC9
    For all others: 
    INSTALL a new Fuel Vaporizer System Glow Plug assembly.
    Refer to the appropriate Exhaust System article.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  11. RL11 CHECK THE VPWR VOLTAGE TO THE FUEL VAPORIZER SYSTEM FUEL PUMP 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect Fuel Vaporizer System Fuel Pump Assembly connector.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage between:
      Positive Lead  Measurement / Action  Negative Lead 
      VGPPWR Pin 1
      Fuel Vaporizer System Fuel Pump Assembly Connector
      Voltage Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 10.5 V? 

    YES  GO to  12
    NO  REPAIR the open circuit.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  12. RL12 CHECK THE FUEL VAPORIZER SYSTEM FUEL PUMP RESISTANCE 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure the resistance between:
      Positive Lead  Measurement / Action  Negative Lead 
      VPWR Pin 1, Component Side
      Fuel Vaporizer System Fuel Pump Assembly Connector
      Ω VPC Pin 2, Component Side
      Fuel Vaporizer System Fuel Pump Assembly Connector

    Is the resistance between 0 - 2 ohms? 

    YES  GO to  13
    NO  INSTALL a new Fuel Vaporizer System Fuel Pump Assembly.
    REFER to the appropriate Exhaust System article.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  13. RL13 CHECK THE VPC CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Connect PCM-T Connector.
    • Measure the resistance between:
      Positive Lead  Measurement / Action  Negative Lead 
      VPC Pin 2
      Fuel Vaporizer System Fuel Pump Assembly Connector
      Ω VPC Pin 2
      PCM-T Connector

    Is the resistance less than 5 Ω? 

    YES  GO to  14
    NO  REPAIR the open circuit.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  14. RL14 CHECK THE VPC CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect Fuel Vaporizer System Fuel Pump Assembly Connector.
    • Measure the resistance between:
      Positive Lead  Measurement / Action  Negative Lead 
      VPC Pin 2
      Fuel Vaporizer System Fuel Pump Assembly Connector
      Ω Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10,000Ω? 

    YES  For DTC P2698: 
    the system is operating correctly at this time.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    For all others: 
    GO to  15
    NO  REPAIR the short circuit.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  15. RL15 CHECK THE VPC CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage between:
      Positive Lead  Measurement / Action  Negative Lead 
      VPC Pin 2
      Fuel Vaporizer System Fuel Pump Assembly Connector
      Voltage Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    YES  REPAIR the short circuit.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    NO  INSTALL a new Fuel Vaporizer System Fuel Pump assembly.
    Refer to the appropriate Exhaust System article.
    Clear the PCM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
