Main Control Valve Body: Installation

  1. 1.

    Inspect the bias spring to make sure it is positioned correctly in the transmission case.

    NOTE: Before installing the main control assembly into the transmission case, verify the presence and orientation of the center support feed tube seals. Also note that one or more of the center support feed tube seals may have remained in the main control assembly during removal and should be installed into the transmission case at this time.

    Verify the rubber adapter is in place.

  1. 4.

    Material: Petroleum JellyCoat the thermal bypass valve or plug with petroleum jelly to hold it in place and install the thermal bypass valve or plug into the transmission case.

      NOTE: Vehicles without transmission fluid warmer.

    NOTE: The main control will not rest flush on the on the transmission case, this is a normal condition with the rubber feed tubes, the bolts will pull the main control assembly to the case.

      Align the guide pins on the main control with the alignment holes in the transmission case.

      Alignment holes.

      Align the manual valve with the manual valve pin.

    1. 4.

      Loosely install the 2 bolts.

  1. 6.

    Install the main control valve body bolts and tighten in the sequence shown.

    Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    If removed, install the bulkhead connector sleeve seals.

    With the release tab down and unlocked, push the outer shell of the bulkhead electrical connector into the transmission. Make sure the bulkhead connector is fully seated into the molded leadframe. Push up on the tab and lock the outer shell of the bulkhead electrical connector in place. Make sure the locking tab is securely locked.

    1. 1.

      Connect the transmission electrical connector.

    1. 2.

      Rotate the transmission electrical connector clockwise to lock it.

  1. 10.

    Install the transmission fluid pan and filter. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Pan, Gasket and Filter .

  1. 11.

    NOTE: If an individual solenoid was replaced clear the adaptive strategy.

    If any of the solenoids were replaced, Perform a Road Test - Adaptive Drive Cycle after the adaptive strategy is cleared. Refer to: Adaptive Learning Drive Cycle .

  1. 12.

    NOTE: The solenoid body strategy data file and solenoid body identification must be updated anytime a new solenoid body is installed. A new solenoid body service tag must be installed over the current solenoid body service tag on top of the transmission case.
