Pinpoint Test R : The RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) Transmitter Is Inoperative

  1. R1 CHECK ALL THE BUTTONS ON THE SUSPECT RKE (REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY) TRANSMITTERS

    • Press each button on the RKE transmitter (twice for the liftgate/luggage compartment lid release).

    Does any RKE function operate?

Yes  GO to Pinpoint Test S
    No  GO to  R2
  2. R2 CHECK FOR THE CORRECT RKE (REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY) TRANSMITTERS

    • Check that the correct RKE transmitters are used with the vehicle.

Are the correct RKE transmitters present?

    Yes  GO to  R3
No  The system cannot be tested without the correct RKE transmitters. INFORM the customer the correct RKE transmitters must be present to proceed with diagnosis of the system.
  3. R3 CHECK FOR BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) B1D21:62

    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the BCM self-test.

    Is DTC B1D21:62 present?

Yes  If only one transmitter is present, GO to  R4If more than one transmitter is present, GO to  R5
    No  GO to  R6
  4. R4 RESYNCHRONIZE THE INOPERATIVE RKE (REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY) TRANSMITTER

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Within close proximity of the vehicle, press any of the buttons 3 consecutive times within 30 seconds.
    • Observe the vehicle for audible or visual feedback.

Does the RKE transmitter now function?

Yes  The system is OK. The concern was cause by an RKE transmitter out of synchronization.
    No  GO to  R6

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Press any button on the functioning RKE transmitter and activate the locks or the liftgate/luggage compartment lid release.
    • Within 30 seconds of activating the locks or the liftgate release, press a button on the non-functioning RKE transmitter.
    • Observe the vehicle for audible or visual feedback.

Does the RKE transmitter now function?

Yes  The system is OK. The concern was cause by an RKE transmitter out of synchronization.
    No  GO to  R6
  6. R6 CHECK THE RKE (REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY) TRANSMITTER BATTERY

    • Open the suspect RKE transmitter. Refer to the Owner's Literature for RKE transmitter battery replacement procedure.
    • NOTE: Do not clean off any grease from the battery terminals on the back surface of the circuit board.

Verify the correct battery is used (CR2032).

    • Remove the RKE transmitter battery and measure the voltage.

Is the voltage greater than 2.5 volts?

    Yes  GO to  R7
No  INSTALL a new battery (make sure the battery is seated correctly). DO NOT reprogram the RKE transmitter (weak or dead batteries do not erase Transmitter Identification Codes (TICs) from memory).
  7. R7 PROGRAM THE SUSPECT RKE (REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY) TRANSMITTER

    • Press the lock and then the unlock buttons on the suspect RKE transmitter.

Do the doors lock and then unlock?

Yes  The system is OK. The concern was caused by an unprogrammed RKE transmitter.
    No  GO to  R8
  8. R8 PROGRAM A KNOWN GOOD RKE (REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY) TRANSMITTER (KEY FOB)

    • Press the lock and then the unlock buttons on the suspect RKE transmitter.

Do the doors lock and then unlock?

Yes  REPLACE the suspect RKE transmitter. If the suspect RKE transmitter is an IKT, ERASE and PROGRAM the keys. REFER to: Erase All Keys and Key Programming If the suspect RKE transmitter is a key fob, PROGRAM the RKE transmitter. REFER to: Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter Programming
    No  GO to  R9
  9. R9 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Disconnect and inspect all of the BCM connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connectors or terminals-clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins- install new terminals pins
      • pushed-out pins- install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect all the BCM connectors and make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM)
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
