ISSUE

For 2017-2019 F-Super Duty and 2016-2019 Explorer/Police Interceptor Utility vehicles, a terminal repair kit for pins 1 and 2 of the powertrain control module (PCM) power relay inside of the battery junction box (BJB) is now available. It is no longer necessary to replace the entire BJB.

ACTION

Follow the Service Procedure to correct the condition on vehicles that meet all of the following criteria:

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Use the terminal repair kit to repair the terminals. Only pins 1 and 2 of the PCM power relay are serviceable. Pins 3 and 5 of the PCM power relay in the BJB are bus barred into the box itself and will need to be serviced with a higher level part. For relay pin location information, refer to the Wiring Diagram, Cell 11-1.

NOTE: The terminal kit wire is a larger gauge compared to the factory circuits in the BJB for pins 1 and 2.

2 Terminal kit circuit

To join both circuits, insert both stripped wires into the same side of the supplied butt splice. Once both circuits are joined with the butt splice, solder the joint. Refer to Step C in the included instruction sheet from the terminal kit and Wiring Diagram, Cell 5-1. Use the supplied heat shrink over the wire repair. (Figure 2)
