Liftgate Release

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Ford Transit Connect. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The liftgate release system is inhibited when the vehicle speed exceeds 7 km/h (4.3 mph). The liftgate release system is also inhibited from the release switch when the vehicle doors are locked.

If the liftgate release button on a RKE transmitter is pressed once, the liftgate releases when the release switch (located on the liftgate) is pressed within 45 seconds.

When the liftgate release system is not inhibited, the liftgate latch can be released from the liftgate release switch.

The BCM sends a voltage signal to the liftgate release switch. When the liftgate release switch is pressed, the signal is routed to ground, pulling the signal low and indicating a request to release the liftgate latch.

When the BCM receives a valid request to release the liftgate latch, the BCM supplies voltage to the latch. The liftgate latch then actuates to release the liftgate.
